⇢ Catherine Corsini

In the early 80s, she made her first three short films, which quickly won awards.  In 1999, LA NOUVELLE ÈVE, with Karine Viard, got her the recognition by the general public. Alongside Pascale Bussières and Emmanuelle Béart, she shot LA RÉPÉTITION, co-produced by Denise Robert in Quebec, and made a remarkable entry in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, Catherine Corsini has directed thirteen feature films, including UN AMOUR IMPOSSIBLE, LA BELLE SAISON and THE DIVIDE.

Strongly committed to various causes, such as the fight against domestic violence and racism, the situation of illegal immigrants in France, the promotion of equality between women and men and diversity in cinema, she was president of the Caméra d'Or jury at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in 2016 and was named Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic. This year at CINEMANIA, Catherine Corsini is co-president of the official "Visage de la Francophonie" Jury, alongside Quebec actor Rémy Girard (LA CHUTE DE L’EMPIRE AMÉRICAIN, IL PLEUVAIT DES OISEAUX, PAYS, INCENDIES...).

About Catherine Corsini's latest film, THE DIVIDE:
Officially presented at the Cannes Film Festival competition, THE DIVIDE is the eleventh feature film by Catherine Corsini (PARTIR, SUMMERTIME, UN AMOUR IMPOSSIBLE). The film won the Queer Palm, making its director the second woman to win this award, after Céline Sciamma. The filmmaker crafts an intense political narrative that tackles head-on the multiple social ruptures of a rebellious France.

The tragicomic performances of her actors - Valéria Bruni Tedeschi, Marina Foïs and Pio Marmaï - make the film cheerful and entertaining, despite the ambient gravity. A fable of anger and fantasy that asks real questions, especially about the hypocrisies of the leftist bourgeoisie. It all unfolds in one frantic night, during which the viewer is tossed from one intimate drama to another, like a hyperlink cinema film. It’s powerful and necessary.
