VIRTUAL REALITY

Published on October 6 2022

On the occasion of the 28th edition of CINEMANIA, where Luxembourg is the guest of honor, the Centre PHI presents a selection of four virtual reality (VR) works as well as Close-up, a photo exhibition by Fabrizio Maltese, an Italian photographer and filmmaker based in Luxembourg.

The desire for the image and the omnipresence of photography in the media are part of our daily lives. In his exhibition Close-up, Fabrizio Maltese attempts to review the codes and meaning of celebrity photos in the age of social media. These works will be an opportunity to ask questions about our relationship to the image and the staging of oneself.

The four virtual reality (VR) works on display immerse us in universes ranging from the world of dreams to that of never-realized movies.

Missing Pictures - The Monkey Wrench Gang, episode 3

France, Angleterre, Taïwan, Luxembourg, Corée du Sud | 2022 | 11 minutes
Français, Anglais, Allemand, Coréen, Mandarin

For every film made, dozens of images are forever missing. Missing Pictures gives filmmakers the opportunity to tell a story that would otherwise never be told.
After the huge box-office success of Twilight Chapter 1, American filmmaker Catherine Hardwicke tried to make an adaptation of Edward Abbey's The Monkey Wrench Gang, a cult book of the American counterculture of the 1970s and a precursor of eco-activism. The director looks back on this project, which was particularly dear to her, and which became, because of the reluctance of the Hollywood studios, one of the "ghosts of her past".

Director: Clément Deneux, Catherine Hardwicke.
