Steeped in History and Preserved Over Time, French National Monuments as Film Sets
French national monuments, rich in history and preserved through the ages, are often chosen as settings for iconic films. This year, CINEMANIA offers a unique opportunity to rediscover these sites through various works. Following the screening of Jeanne du Barry, directed by Maïwenn, this conference invites you to go beyond the images and delve into the behind-the-scenes of these productions.
Whether for feature films, documentaries, music videos, or special broadcasts, what challenges and obstacles arise, from location selection to on-screen portrayal? What impacts and opportunities do these productions bring to the various stakeholders involved? This is a chance to explore the practical and logistical constraints to anticipate, as well as the historical requirements and preservation imperatives tied to the creation of these settings.
Conference speakers include: Marina Santelli, Head of Territorial Department in the Economic Development Division of the Center for National Monuments; Elodie Gironde, director and producer of discovery programs and documentaries, and Mission France-Canada lead for UNTERVAL; and Yan Ethier, Cultural Development Officer at the Montreal Film and Television Bureau.
