In the same vein as other powerful peasant dramas that deal with a struggling rural world (Hubert Charuel’s BLOODY MILK and Edouard Bergeron’s AU NOM DE LA TERRE) made in the past few years, LA TERRE DES HOMMES is a film which now deals with woman’s place in an area still dominated by men and the balance of power maintained by the agricultural microcosm. The filmmaker centres her social and feminist story in a very realistic approach, quasi documentary, on an ambitious and determined young farmer (brilliantly interpreted by Diane Rouxel) prey to the pernicious grip of male domination, both physical and political. The film revolts and categorically denounces the worst atrocities of the manipulation and excesses of this system.
