Baby is born in a dying world. He opens eyes in a family that is keeping them closed. He shouts in a house where everyone is silent, where everyone hides. Baby brings chaos. He is unloved. Before suffocating in this noxious atmosphere, Hélène, the young mother, leaves these four cracking walls, abandoning her parents, her brother, and her child, who are gradually burning up in their respective cellars. Selected in the Proxima competition of the “Karlovy Vary International Film Festival”, Au Grand Jour tells the story of a painful unspoken family conflict, carefully staged by Quebec director Emmanuel Tardif. A masterfully twisted film where mystery hovers in an atmosphere of deceptive appearances.
