Louis Martin, who died in 2008 from a degenerative illness, left an indelible mark on radio, television and print media in Quebec. This in-depth look at his life leads us to question what journalism really is.
CINEMANIA's opinion:
In this unique documentary—another collaboration with actor and writer Alexis Martin, who also co-wrote ROUTE 132—Louis Bélanger crafts a fascinating portrait of Alexis’ father, through testimony from the latter’s peers and friends. While focusing on its subject, LOUIS MARTIN, JOURNALISTE also has to take into account the entire history of Quebec journalism since the 50’s, encountering issues such as unionization, independence and citizens’ rights. Bélanger is clearly fascinated by this character—understandably, since the filmmaker himself has long dreamed of becoming un grand reporter.
