On a whim, 25-year-old Freddie returns for the first time to South Korea, the country where she was born. The young woman sets off in a passionate quest to find her origins in this foreign land, turning her life around in new and unexpected directions. Selected for Un Certain Regard at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, Retour à Seoul confirms the genius of French-Cambodian director Davy Chou, discovered at the “Semaine de la Critique” in 2016 for Diamond Island. The story is built in several chapters spread out over ten years, and cleverly balances emotions and humor playing on the clash of cultures. In the title role, Ji-min Park perfectly embodies the energy of youthful self-discovery.
