After the accidental death of his son, a Montréal professor is pulled by an old friend into a series of burglaries on Route 132. Louis Bélanger recalls, “When we started the project, we decided to make a road movie as a way to encounter Quebec, as a kind of metaphor. There’s a mirror effect between Gilles’ experiences and Quebec’s experiences. We chose Route 132 because, in our view, it’s the cradle of French Canada. We arrived on the banks of the Saint Lawrence, and we cultivated the land there before heading to the big cities. These are our origins.” (Louis Bélanger)
CINEMANIA's opinion:
The filmmaker wrote this midlife-crisis tale with Alexis Martin, who also co-stars in the film alongside François Papineau; the duo portrayed by these actors has become legendary in Quebec cinema. Louis Bélanger uses the road trip along the banks of the Saint Lawrence to share his love for Quebec and his persistent belief in humanity. Through his cinematography, Pierre Mignot explores and magnifies the landscape, particularly in the masterful sequence in which an underwater cemetery is discovered, which admirably evokes Pierre Perrault’s FOR THOSE WHO WILL FOLLOW.
