The 60's. A vacation villa by the sea, out of season. A woman, Suzanna Andler, 40 years old, married, mother. Her young lover, the first, Michel. Loneliness, doubts, the desire for freedom, life's choices. And love. Based on the play by Marguerite Duras (1968).
CINEMANIA’s opinion:
French director Benoît Jacquot (César for the best adaptation for DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID in 2016) returns with this adaptation of an unknown play by the great Marguerite Duras. A story inhabited and lyrical, a “huis clos” in front of the sea, with in its center the great Charlotte Gainsbourg who confirms once again her talent as an actress. All in slowness, in unspoken words, and with this marvelous mixture of subtlety and sensuality of which only she has the secret, the actress carries the film with brio. Also starring Niels Schneider, magnificent of elegance. A great melancholic film.
⇢ Film presented in partnership with Librairie Gallimard de Montréal, Librairies du Square and Librairie Le Port de Tête.
