Stéphane (Laure Calamy) reconnects with her father after having lost sight of him since childhood. The wealthy businessman lives reclusively in an imposing mansion on the seashore, surrounded by his spendthrift wife, his ungrateful but successful daughter, a rebellious teenager, and a nosy house cleaner. Stéphane takes a liking to the grumpy old man, who is convinced that his family is plotting to get rid of him. L’Origine du Mal stars the delightful Laure Calamy, who we recently saw in Antoinette dans les Cévennes. She shares a few scenes with Quebec actress Suzanne Clément. Selected in the “Orizzonti Extra” competition at the Venice Film Festival, Sébastien Marnier's latest film skillfully mixes thriller and dark comedy.
