The new feature film by Tunisian director Mehdi M. Barsaoui (A Son) has just won the Best Mediterranean Film Award at the 81st Venice Film Festival. The story follows Aya, a young woman trapped in a dull and unpromising life in Tozeur, in southern Tunisia. After surviving a tragic accident, she decides to disappear and reinvent her life in Tunis. However, her fresh start is jeopardized when she becomes a witness to a police misconduct incident. This poignant drama explores themes of self-reinvention, the quest for freedom, and the personal and societal challenges faced by women today in Tunisia.
