Elisabeth (Isabelle Huppert), and 30-year old daughter Catherine (Huppert’s real life daughter, Lolita Chammah), star in a superbly-acted and gripping drama filmed at Lac de la Haut-Sure in Northern Luxembourg near the Belgian border.
After a 10-year absence, Catherine re-unites with her daughter Alba, whom she had left in the care of Elisabeth, her own mother. At first Alba almost violently rejects her biological mother. When Alba suffers an injury after spending time alone with her mother, grandmother Elisabeth whisks her off to the family’s lakeside home for some private time without Catherine. From that point onward, the three generations must come to grips with solutions to their dark dilemma.
