The closest of friends, Paul Cézanne (Guillaume Gallienne) and Émile Zola (Guillaume Canet), leave their hometown of Aix for Paris and soon join the 1890s Montmartre in-crowd. The two are rebels, sharing hopes and doubts, drinking, carousing and skirt-chasing. They share absolutely everything. They hang at the same haunts, sleep with the same women, and share a growing disdain for the bourgeoisie. They judge, admire and confront each other. Zola’s writing brings him fame, fortune, and international renown, while Cézanne remains unknown. They lose contact and reconnect like old lovers who never stop loving each other.
Director Danielle Thompson’s historical biopic features an extraordinary cast. Not to be missed!
