Millions of distressed migrants now seek political asylum, and Tunisian director Raja Amari brings us the story of one of them – the sole survivor of a shipwreck en route to France.
Samia (Sara Hannachi) flees Tunisia fearing reprisals in the wake of the Jasmine Revolution (she informed on her radicalized brother). In Paris, she faces a new world of struggle and hope, without friends, family or papers. She eventually finds work in the home of Leila (the inimitable Arab-Israeli Hiam Abbass), and soon becomes enmeshed in a romantic drama, a web of sexual tension. Samia shifts from sullen to sensual, from desire to fear, and her resourceful survival instincts kick-in.
