Nassim (Khalid Alouach, a rising star!), appears at first glance to be as nonchalantly indifferent to school (and life) as his lycee schoolmates. The truth is that his fellow students couldn’t possibly imagine his life with a drug-addled suicidal mother and subsequent foster home fate. He maintains a pretence, a double life of “bobo” (bourgeois-bohemes) fabrication, returning to foster homes after school each evening. He delicately tries to navigate between his two separate lives, soldiering on with resilience, trying to reconcile the two with the guidance of Professor Mme Cousin (magnificently interpreted by Yolande Moreau).
It’s a powerful and touching film, a spellbinding masterpiece that makes us laugh and cry – pure cinema!
