This is Paul Verhoeven’s first feature film in ten years and it’s a humdinger of a thriller.
Michèle (Isabelle Huppert) is one tough cookie, as demanding and unsentimental as CEO of a big video game company as she is in her private life. That life is suddenly upended when she is attacked and raped in her own home by an unknown assailant. Seemingly unshaken and impassive, Michèle coolly plans her revenge, resolute and vindictive as she obsessively tracks the identity of her attacker.
A tastefully twisted tale and a captivating social and sexual satire, ELLE is especially delectable because Verhoeven finds humour in even the most bizarre and perverse situations. Mesmerizing!
