Director Michael Haneke’s latest drama revolves around a wealthy and dysfunctional family in the Channel town of Calais. These guys have no more empathy for one another than they do for their servants or the thousands of desperate migrants trapped in abominable conditions in Calais. Wheelchair-bound patriarch Georges (Jean-Louis Trintignant, AMOUR), has just lost his beloved wife --he founded the family construction business now down-on-its-luck under the management of steely and inflexible daughter Mme Laurent (Isabelle Huppert).
Haneke brings us a beautifully-filmed family satire, a fascinating study of affluence poisoning relationships, and a serious reflection on the macro-society in which we live.
