United-States, 1861. The American Civil War breaks out… A family of French colonists, settled in Missouri, decides to go back to France. Edmond, Madeleine and their three daughters have to cross the whole country to reach New York. They are led by the mysterious and dangerous mercenary Victor.
SAVAGE STATE is a captivating western focusing essentially on the woman’s point of view and, moreover, carried by exceptional actresses: Déborah Francois, Alice Isaaz, Maryse Bertieaux and Kate Moran. Director David Perrault brilliantly portrays a twilight esthetic and offers the viewer a mood film that links European romanticism and the myth of the Great West. Filmed in part in Quebec’s Laurentians, SAVAGE STATE is the first minority coproduction of Metafilms, a Montreal-based company (Producers of YOUNG JULIETTE, A BROTHER’S LOVE, MOMMY).
