Halima, a Frenchwoman of Algerian descent, is pregnant with her second child. When she learns that she will have a boy this time, traumatic memories resurface. She must confess to her Québécois husband, Sylvain, that she has lied about her family all these years. She is not an orphan as she has always claimed: her father, mother, sisters, and brothers are very much alive. Eight years after Montréal la blanche, based on her documentary play about the Algerian diaspora, Bachir Bensaddek returns with a new portrait of an immigrant woman. He explores family secrets and the long process of reconstruction that follows.
