Nearing fifty, respected violinist Simon (Kad Merad at his best), is in mid-life crisis – there’s an emptiness in his life and career. Contacted by 6th-grade Music Appreciation instructor Monsieur Farid (Samir Guesmi), Simon accepts a violin teaching assignment to a class of rambunctious ‘Paris banlieue’ students. Simon’s initial attempts at strict instruction are doomed to failure, yet one introverted student shows signs of promise – that heartening omen plus the class’s unbridled energy, renew Simon’s joy in music and teaching!
