1998. The 2nd Congo war. Veteran and war-weary Sergeant Xavier (Marc Zinga), and fresh recruit Private Faustin (Stéphane Bak) are accidently separated from their Rwandan battalion during a night-time raid inside Congolese territory. They struggle for survival with no water or food, and face malarial fever, jungle wildlife and rebel forces. At first, the older Xavier is gruff and demanding, but eventually a deep bond develops when Faustin makes critical contributions to their survival. The men confront their own existential crises – Xavier haunted by atrocities he has witnessed while Faustin dwells on revenging the murders of family members. Exhausted, they push west through interminable jungle in search of their battalion...
