Nearing fifty, respected violinist Simon (Kad Merad at his best), is in mid-life crisis – there’s an emptiness in his life and career. Contacted by 6th-grade Music Appreciation instructor Monsieur Farid (Samir Guesmi), Simon accepts a violin teaching assignment to a class of rambunctious ‘Paris banlieue’ students. Simon’s initial attempts at strict instruction are doomed to failure, yet one introverted student shows signs of promise – that heartening omen plus the class’s unbridled energy, renew Simon’s joy in music and teaching! Yet there’s nowhere to practice –how about the rooftops of Paris? Can enthusiasm conquer all, leading hip-hop kids to compete at the Concours Philharmonie de Paris
