Muriel (Catherine Deneuve), lives on her horse farm and orchard in the bucolic southwest French countryside. Muriel’s joyful demeanour, during her grandson Alex’s farewell visit before departing ostensibly for Canada, turns distraught when she accidentally discovers that Alex, (Kacey Mottet Klein) has converted to Islam, undergone radicalization, and is planning to journey to Syria to fight for ISIS. Both Alex and his childhood sweetheart Lila have been stealing from Muriel in order to finance Alex’s military training.
Distinguished director-screenwriter André Téchiné’s film features superb acting, and tackles a difficult subject with authority, sensitivity and intelligence; suspenseful and unforgettable !
