Stéphane (Laure Calamy) contacts her father after having lost sight of him since childhood. The wealthy businessman lives reclusively in an imposing mansion on the seashore, surrounded by his spendthrift wife, two ungrateful daughters and a nosy maid. Stéphane takes a liking to the gruff old man, who is convinced that his family is plotting to get rid of him.

The Origin of Evil stars the delightful Laure Calamy, who we recently saw in Antoinette dans les Cévennes. She shares a few scenes with Quebec actress Suzanne Clément. In official competition in Venice, this latest film by Sébastien Marnier skillfully mixes thriller and black comedy.
