CINEMANIA’s
opinion:
After
winning
the
Golden
Lion
at
the
last
Mostra
de
Venise,
the
director
Audrey
Diwan
declared:”
Something
is
changing.
A
woman
won
the
Oscar,
a
woman
won
the
Golden
Palm,
a
woman
won
the
Golden
Lion.
This
means
something,
it
can’t
be
just
a
coincidence”.
Happening
is
a
politically
engaged
work
which
resonates
particularly
with
the
new
Texas
law
on
abortion
in
the
United
States.
With
a
fine
sense
of
restraint,
Diwan
stages
the
way
of
the
cross
of
a
young
French
girl
who
must
find
the
courage
to
talk
about
her
pregnancy
and
of
her
desire
to
terminate
it
though
the
Veil
law
has
not
yet
come
into
effect
(for
which
we’ll
have
to
wait
till
1975).
Her
silence
and
her
determination
place
the
viewer
not
at
her
side,
but
right
with
her
from
end
to
end:
an
uncompromisingly
intense
and
overwhelming
journey.
