Mme de la Pommeraye, (scintillating Cécile de France) a young widow who has retreated from the world, finally gives-in to the blandishments of the charismatic Marquis des Arcis (Édouard Baer) and partners with the notorious libertine. After several happy and pleasurable years, she senses that the Marquis has grown tired of her charms. Quietly furious, but still madly in love, she decides to avenge herself with the help of young Mlle de Joncquières (Alice Isaaz).
In what is an exciting historical romp, director-screenwriter Emmanuel Mouret, king of romantic comedies, fills this 18th-century costume drama with clever and amusing dialogue. We progress from love to seduction, from manipulation and end to intrigue and with the sweetness of revenge.
