MARCHER
SUR
L'EAU

CINEMANIA’s
opinion:
Northern
Niger
is
a
fragile
region,
vulnerable
to
drought.
Everyone
is
fighting
to
gain
access
to
water
which
is
becoming
more
and
more
difficult.
With
Above
Water,
actress
Aissa
Maiga
(Les
Poupees
Russes),The
Court)
aims
the
camera
at
a
world
in
full
transformation:
climate
changes,
but
also
the
modernisation
of
a
formerly
nomadic
small
community
.
The
poetic
title
of
the
film
should
also
be
taken
literally:
the
small
community
has
under
its
feet
all
the
water
it
would
need
to
survive,
waiting
for
drilling
that
itself
is
in
waiting
for
the
bureaucracy
to
move
into
action.
Under
the
guise
of
a
universal
tale,
this
documentary
admirably
raises
our
awareness
of
the
fragility
of
a
planet
that
the
West
too
often
takes
for
granted.
