Morocco, nowadays.
Young Mica is suddenly torn from his family to work at a tennis club in Casablanca frequented by the Moroccan elite. The young boy finds himself brutally confronted by a world with which he is unfamiliar. Forced to help support his family’s needs, he will face humiliation, contempt and oppression, without rebelling. But his meeting with Sophia, a former champion, who takes him under her wing, changes everything: he comes to realize that he can take control of his own destiny.
Mica retraces the touching journey of a poor child who wants to escape his situation in a world where inequality is the law of the land. The film is carried by the young Zakaria Inane, a captivating non-professional actor. The director Ismael Ferroukhi (FREE MEN shown at CINEMANIA 2011) clarifies his intentions: “Touched by the violence of the country’s social inequalities, I became interested in the destiny of this youth that is sinking into despair and hopelessness and knows only one dream, to flee to Europe.”
