1958, Lebanon. Three sisters of Christian faith live in a village nestled in the mountains. Under the summer sun of the countryside, they live comfortably, but this summer languor conceals some very dark aspects: the eldest, Layla, rebels against the patriarchal society where women's destinies are predetermined, at the cost of abandoning her little son. In this film with stunning landscapes that includes Nathalie Baye, director Carlo Chahine depicts a heartbreaking love story between a mother and her son through the harsh reality of Lebanese women.
