A radiant and wrenching film by distinguished director Christophe Honoré: a tender story, full of life, love, friendship, art and AIDS in the watershed year 1993 when the plague was far more of a scourge than it is today – gay male identity and sexual freedom could come at a price.
Honoré’s character development is superb as he appraises the lives of two men: 35-year old Jacques, (Pierre Deladonschamps) who has AIDS, and 22-year old Arthur (Vincent Lacoste) who nevertheless lusts after the older guy. Arthur is still half a boy, needy and yearning, while Jacques is hesitant and resigned to his fate. But a loving and sexual relationship with Arthur is far too attractive to resist...
