Vincent is a hairdresser in his thirties, saddled with an overbearing mother who has an apartment in the same building as his. He lives a cautious and constricted life. A chance meeting with the mysterious shop clerk Rosalie Blum piques Vincent’s interest. Where has he met this intriguing woman before? A series of coincidences follow, leading to a surprising adventure. Vincent’s life will never be the same.
With this enchanting directorial debut, filmmaker and screenwriter Julien Rappeneau succeeds admirably in adapting graphic novelist Camille Jourdy’s eponymous series to the big screen. Rosalie Blum is a warm and witty gem of a film, and a fascinating meditation on loneliness and solitude that many compare to Amélie.
