France
A dynamic and action-packed day in the life of police Captain Daoud (Roschdy Zem), in the downtrodden crime-ridden city of Roubaix in north-eastern France. On Christmas eve, Daoud, assisted by rookie detective Louis, tries to solve the brutal murder case of an old woman - a couple of alcoholic drug addicts, Claude (Léa Seydoux), and Marie (Sara Forestier), are arrested.
Growing-up in his hometown of Roubaix, renowned director-screenwriter Arnaud Desplechin couldn’t wait to escape his roots but can’t seem to resist going back on-screen, time and time again. He brings us a fascinating portrayal of working-class realities, of the marginalized and destitute.
