Raphaël is a caretaker of a bourgeois estate. He lives in an annex and one evening has a profound encounter with the current owner, which changes his perspective on the world and life. This is a reimagining of the Beauty and the Beast myth in a tale that evokes Cocteau in its text and Joseph Losey in its imagery. The provincial dialect here is not caricatured but rather a nod (with an exceptional grandmother) to highlight the significance of these domestic workers, who remain relevant and close to the filmmaker's childhood memories. Emmanuelle Devos embodies her character beautifully from the very first moments on screen.
