As the opening film of the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes, this is the compelling story of the trial of a secular Jew in 1975, which echoes in the present. Director Cédric Kahn (known for The Prayer and A Better Life) places us in the complex role of the jurors and highlights the limitations of justice. The film follows the fascinating second trial of Pierre Goldman, a far-left activist, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for four armed robberies, one of which resulted in the death of two pharmacists. He proclaims his innocence in this last case and becomes a political icon.
