Auteur Claire Denis makes a comedy? And what a charming and sophisticated one it is, filled with deliciously amusing dialogue! The film is very perceptive about the complexity of contemporary lives and relationships and despite the clever repartee, emotions run strong.
Isabelle (Juliette Binoche), is a 50-ish divorced mother looking for love in all the wrong places. True love is not easy to find even for a bright and beautiful well-known Parisian artist. Isabelle runs the gamut of prospective suitors and bed partners – incompatibility seems to be the name of the game, a delightful one to watch to the very end of the closing credits, especially to catch Gérard Depardieu at his best!
