EMMANUEL MOURET| Guest CINEMANIA 2022

DIRECTOR
In the tradition of Eric Rohmer, Sacha Guitry and Woody Allen, director Emmanuel Mouret frequently takes the lead role in his own productions, perfectly portraying an uncontrived and very inept young man, yet clever and good-humoured. He was leading man in his first film, “LAISSONS LUCIE FAIRE” (2000), opposite Marie Gillain, as well as in his second film “VENUS ET FLEUR”, a tale of two young women searching for their soul-mates (Cannes, Directors’ Fortnight, 2004)Again selected at Directors’ Fortnight Cannes 2006, “CHANGEMENT D’ADRESSE” (CINEMANIA 2006) enjoyed great success and allowed Mouret to quickly direct “UN BAISER S’IL VOUS PLAIT” in 2007 starring Virginie Ledoyen and Julie Gayet, presented at Venice Film Festival. In 2009, CINEMANIA’s Opening Film was Mouret’s excellent comedy-farce “FAIS-MOI PLAISIR!” (“PLEASE, PLEASE ME!”)
In 2011, Mouret challenged himself in creating and casting “an ensemble acting film”, juggling 15 film stars in “L’ART D’AIMER”. Soon came Joey Starr as leading man in another romantic comedy “UNE AUTRE VIE” followed by “CAPRICE” with Virginie Efira, Anais Dumoustier and himself, Emmanuel Mouret.
His 2018 film is again a departure: “MADEMOISELLE DE JONCQUIÈRES”, adapted from a text by Diderot, it’s Mouret’s first historical costume-drama crossed with a romantic comedy, starring Édouard Baer and Cécile de France. The film just opened in France to both critical and audience acclaim.
