A truly passionate and genuinely enthusiastic comeback. This is the mindset in which CINEMANIA prepared the 28th Edition of CINEMANIA. The time has come to get together, in person, in front of the big screen, a time to share our emotions. Unveiling the program you’re about to discover in this catalog is the most rewarding part of our job. I am, therefore, once again pleased to have the opportunity to present this eclectic selection of 122 films, including 70 premieres, spread over 118 screenings. Today more than ever, CINEMANIA has three goals. The first is to use cinema to reinforce and arouse a sense of belonging to the international French-speaking world of which Quebec is part of. The second is to participate in recognition of Quebec cinema here and abroad. Finally, and above all, to nurture cinephilia, the urge to explore, and the appetite for a different kind of cinema that uses the French language as a rich creative vector.
Returning to the Festival's emblematic venues signifies a reconnection with our international guests, including renowned artists, all eager to present their work and exchange with the audience. CINEMANIA is pleased to welcome four juries, including the prestigious jury of the “Visages de la Francophonie” competition, co-chaired by the Franco-Quebec duo of the actress Pascale Bussières and the film director Cédric Klapisch. We also invite you to meet a great name of the Quebec cultural landscape, François Dompierre, "the man with the 60 movies soundtracks", to whom we are dedicating a day. 2022 finally marks the return of the country of honor: we are proud to welcome an unprecedented group of Luxembourg filmmakers, producers and artists. Located in the heart of Europe, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg chose thirty years ago to develop its creative industries, with impressive results today, particularly in terms of co-production. This will provide the material for our new professional section, entitled CINEMANIA Pro, which will focus on the issues of making French-speaking cinema more accessible, visual arts education, and a very nice tribute to the Canadian province of Manitoba.
