CINEMANIA reveals its complete 2015 program!

Antonythasan Jesuthasan, the star of DHEEPAN, will present the Opening Film in person at the Imperial Cinema, Thursday evening, November 5th. His own experiences inspired the making of the film.
A WIDE-RANGING AND ECLECTIC SELECTION OF FILMS
Audiences will have a unique opportunity of attending screenings of some of the most notable films from Cannes: LA TÊTE HAUTE by Emmanuelle, MON ROI by Maïwenn, VALLEY OF LOVE by Guillaume Nicloux, JE SUIS UN SOLDAT by Laurent Larivière, LES ANARCHISTES by Elie Wajeman, MARYLAND by Alice Winocour, NI LE CIEL NI LA TERRE by Clément Cogitore.
MARGUERITE ET JULIEN by Valérie Donzelli, an historical yet post-modern incestuous tale, will be presented in person by its co-stars Anaïs Demoustier and Jérémie Elkaïm. Mlle Demoustier will also be introducing À TROIS ON Y VA by Jérôme Bonnell. FLORIDE, starring the incomparable Jean Rochefort, will be presented by its director Philippe Le Guay. Don’t miss a remarkable historical saga on the Armenian Holocaust by Robert Guédiguian, UNE HISTOIRE DE FOU, that actress Ariane Ascaride will be presenting in person.
The plot of LES CHEVALIERS BLANCS by Joachim Lafosse revolves around an adoption racket in Chad and BELLES FAMILLES by Jean-Paul Rappeneau and COMME UN AVION by Denis Podalydès also figure prominently among the excellent films of the CINEMANIA 21st edition!
FRANÇOISE FABIAN, GUEST OF HONOUR!
Our guest of honour, the iconic Françoise Fabian has worked with many of the most distinguished directors – Louis Malle, Luis Buñuel and Claude Lelouch – and we recently enjoyed her on the big screen in JE N’AI RIEN OUBLIÉ and LES GARÇONS ET GUILLAUME, À TABLE! She will personally present the cult film in which she stars, MY NIGHT AT MAUD’S by Eric Rohmer. This remarkably-talented, free and independent actress, will also introduce LA FABIAN, a documentary covering her life and career, Sunday, November 8th at 12:00 noon at the Imperial Cinema (free admission).
FOCUS ON JULIE GAYET
Multi-talented actress-producer-director Julie Gayet will be the focus of a special tribute with the screening of 8 FOIS DEBOUT by Xabi Molia and LA TURBULENCE DES FLUIDES by Manon Briand in which she co-stars with Pascale Bussières. In her role as director, she will personally present CINÉASTES 1 and 2, two documentaries revolving around women in the film industry. And, Julie Gayet, the producer, will introduce JAILBIRDS by Audrey Estrougo, a film about inmates in a women’s prison starring Sophie Marceau and Suzanne Clément.
QUEBEC CO-PRODUCTIONS
Brothers Stéphane and Guillaume Malandrin will personally introduce JE SUIS MORT MAIS J’AI DES AMIS, a Belgian comedy shot partly in Quebec! LA PEUR by Damien Odoul (Prix Jean Vigo 2015) is an astonishing portrayal of the 1914-1918 Great War – the film was entirely shot secretly on location near Trois-Rivières, in the Fall of 2014.
FOCUS ON ALGERIA
CRÉPUSCULE DES OMBRES is a 100% Algerian production revolving around the Algerian war of independence and will be presented in person by director Mohammed Lakhdar-Hamina. He is the only Algerian filmmaker to have been awarded the Palme d’Or (in 1975). A second suspenseful film about the colonial era, LOIN DES HOMMES, magnificently filmed in Morocco by David Oelhoffen, and starring Viggo Mortensen and Reda Kateb, will also be screened as a Quebec premiere.
THE BEAUTIFUL ALSACE REGION
The stunning Alsace region is prominently featured in a special screening of Mario Fanfani’s LES NUITS D’ÉTÉ, shot on location in many Alsacian towns. The screening is presented in collaboration with LES VINS D’ALSACE and will be preceded with a free wine-tasting in which the audience can participate. AIR CANADA and VOYAGES TRADITOURS join in offering a contest with a chance to win a a Rhine River cruise for two.
