As part of the 19th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie, the French capital comes alive with the highly anticipated launch of the Francophonie Festival, which begins on October 2 and will run until October 6. This edition promises to be a truly unmissable cultural event, and CINEMANIA is immensely proud and excited to participate.
Under the evocative theme "Remaking the World," the festival’s program will take place at Gaîté Lyrique, offering the public a deep dive into the Francophone universe through a multidisciplinary experience. This entirely free event is open to all, showcasing a rich array of activities: immersive exhibitions, mesmerizing concerts, captivating talks, stimulating debates, dazzling performances, moments of humor, intimate literary encounters… and, of course, film screenings that celebrate the diversity and boldness of Francophone creativity.
On October 3 at 7:30 PM, don’t miss an evening dedicated to Quebecois culture, featuring the screening of three powerful and moving works. Kanaval by Henri Pardo, On Earth as in Heaven by Nathalie Saint-Pierre, and A Hole in the Chest by Alexandra Myotte and Jean-Sébastien Hamel—three films that capture the very essence of this rich and vibrant culture. These screenings promise to be a highlight, provoking thought and emotion while showcasing Quebec’s creativity.
The following day, on October 4 at 6:45 PM, don’t miss the must-attend roundtable discussion hosted by our General and Artistic Director, Guilhem Caillard. Under the theme "Talents: Writing and Directing in the Francophone World, for Which Audiences?", Guilhem Caillard will lead the conversation with a distinguished panel: Haitian filmmaker Gessica Geneus, Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania, and Lebanese artists Khalil Joreige and Joana Hadjithomas. These iconic figures of Francophone cinema will exchange views on the challenges and opportunities of creating within a multicultural and multilingual space. A must-attend event for all cinema and cultural diversity enthusiasts!
This festival is a true celebration of the Francophonie in all its splendor and plurality, and CINEMANIA is honored to contribute by sharing works that embody both the heritage and the future of Francophone cinema.
