CINEMANIA across Europe for early 2025

CINEMANIA represented at Alpe d'Huez and Montpellier

At the start of this year, our General and Artistic Director Guilhem Caillard is making several trips to France to represent CINEMANIA, to prepare programming for the 31st edition and to accompany screenings of Quebec films.

As part of the 28th Festival International du Film de Comédie de l'Alpe d'Huez (FAH), the most important French event devoted to the comedy genre, CINEMANIA is once again among the very fine delegation of Quebec guests. A member of the jury presided over by French actress Elsa Zylberstein (SIMONE, LE VOYAGE DU SIÈCLE), director Ken Scott (AU-REVOIR LE BONHEUR) represents Quebec at the highest level of this event, while the MADEMOISELLE BOTTINE team is accompanying the French premiere of this dramatic comedy, which opened last November in Quebec. Actors Antoine Bertrand (a regular at the FAH) and Marguerite Laurence, director Yan Lanouette Turgeon and producer Dominic James, enjoyed a particularly popular screening in the Festival's Salle Ciné'Isère, followed by a lively exchange with spectators who are always keen on Quebec comedies. Wearing the traditional tricolor mayor's sash, Antoine Bertrand, for whom this was the third trip to FAH, declared, not without a sense of humor, that he was about to sit at the head of the town's mayor's office! In 2022, the actor won a Best Actor award at the FAH, shared with François Arnaud, Louis Morissette and Patrice Robitaille. In 2012, Ken Scott's STARBUCK won the Special Jury Prize, while actor Patrick Huard took home the Best Actor award. Conducted by Annie Tremblay, and also attended by journalist Catherine Beauchamp (98.5 FM), the event allows many to establish numerous links with professionals from the French film industry.

In Montpellier, as part of the “Trajectoires Documentaires” cycle organized at the Le Tri Postal by Université de Montpellier Paul-Valéry, the RegardOcc collective and DOC-Cévennes (Festival International et Réseau de diffusion du documentaire en Cévennes), CINEMANIA accompanies the special screening of UNE JEUNESSE FRANÇAISE, in the presence of its director Jérémie Battaglia. At the 30th edition of the Festival last November, this Franco-Quebec co-production won two major distinctions: the Prix du Jury Post-Moderne in the “Films du Québec” section, and a special mention from the Documentary Jury of the We Build Change delegation. In Montpellier, the screening will be followed by a discussion led by Guilhem Caillard, who is also hosting the next day a conference on CINEMANIA and the distribution of French-language cinema for students of the Master 2 professionnel "Métiers de la diffusion du cinéma et de l'audiovisuel" (Université Paul Valéry). The event is being held at the invitation of Guilhem Brouillet, Doctor in Media History and lecturer in cinema.

Diane Magnoux, CINEMANIA's Director of Programming, will be in Berlin from February 13th, 2025, to take part in the 75th edition of the prestigious Berlinale, the full selection of which will be unveiled in the coming days.
