Montreal, August 13, 2025 - The CINEMANIA Film Festival is pleased to announce that WHERE SOULS GO (OÙ VONT LES ÂMES), the debut narrative feature by Brigitte Poupart, will have its world premiere during the Gala Evening of the Festival’s 31st edition, on Monday, November 10 at 7 PM at Théâtre Maisonneuve, Place des Arts, with the full cast and crew in attendance.
The Festival is also taking this opportunity to unveil its 2025 official poster and visual identity, once again created by Montreal-based illustrator Clémence Lengaigne. Reflecting CINEMANIA’s strong commitment to contemporary Quebec creation, the new artwork is inspired by a still from Brigitte Poupart’s film, featuring Sara Montpetit (Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person). She appears alongside Monia Chokri (Falcon Lake) and Julianne Côté(The Night Logan Woke Up), portraying three sisters in search of peace. The cast also includes French actress Sylvie Testud (Sagan, Lourdes, My Father and I), Micheline Lanctôt (You Are Not Alone, Simple comme Sylvain), and Fabiola Nyrva Aladin (Vikings). WHERE SOULS GO will open in theatres across Quebec on November 14.
Synopsis : Anna, 18, has requested medical assistance in dying. The date she has set for herself leaves her just fifteen days to fulfill one final wish: to see her half-sisters again before she departs. Separated by traumatic events linked to their shared father, Eve and Éléonore are compelled to reconnect with Anna. Each sister’s strength is revealed through this emotionally charged journey that forces them to confront their fears and limits. By allowing themselves to be vulnerable to the complex lives of the other two, they discover a renewed sisterhood, one that transcends the painful rift caused by their father, who was convicted of rape.
An award-winning and acclaimed actress, stage director, screenwriter and filmmaker, Brigitte Poupart presents with WHERE SOULS GO her first narrative feature film, after notably receiving the Jutra Award for Best Documentary in 2012 for her film OVER MY DEAD BODY, which portrayed dancer Dave St-Pierre’s illness. Surrounded by Gontran Chartré as Director of Photography and Colombe Raby as Production Designer, Brigitte Poupart gives, in WHERE SOULS GO, a voice to women.
Tickets for this spectacular Gala Evening, presented by CINEMANIA in collaboration with Crave, are now on sale :
Produced by Étienne Hansez for BRAVO CHARLIE, with financial participation from SODEC and Telefilm Canada, WHERE SOULS GO is distributed in Canada by AXIA FILMS and will be released on November 14, 2025.
