In this intimate story inspired by her own experience, Alice Douard delicately explores themes of motherhood and legitimacy. Céline and Nadia are expecting their first child. While Nadia’s pregnancy is visible to everyone, Céline finds herself confronted with a legislative and societal framework that is less progressive than she expected. In the eyes of her wife, her mother and those around her, she struggles to find her place. Both Ella Rumpf and Monia Chokri deliver deeply moving and authentic performances in this subtle and essential debut, which was featured in the Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival. The film evokes the beauty of Une histoire simple in a story that is anything but.
