Hubert Caron-Guay works in Montreal. He is a filmmaker and visual artist who develops an immersive practice based on close relationships with his protagonists. His films explore the human condition, humanitarian crises, and environmental issues, questioning the coercive forces that shape the existence of both human and non-human beings. His documentary works have been presented at major international festivals, including Visions du Réel, IDFA, and RIDM. A member of the Épopée collective, he has directed films about the lives of sex workers and drug users in downtown Montreal (L'état du monde, L’état du moment), as well as the migratory journeys of asylum seekers (Destierros, Arroyos, Ressources). Alongside his film work, Caron-Guay develops gallery installations that extend his research on the politics of the body. The mechanics of borders is his first feature-length fiction film. He is currently developing a second fiction film as well as his next feature-length documentary.
