Born in 2000 in Tours, Hugo originally intended to become a doctor. While studying medicine in Grenoble, he met Raphaël Quenard’s sister in the university lecture hall. After changing career paths and graduating from film school, Hugo—now determined to become a director—was entrusted by his former professor Jean-Baptiste Durand with directing the making-of for Junkyard Dog, his first feature film. On set, by chance of casting, Hugo and Raphaël crossed paths once again. Seizing the opportunity and sharing a mutual passion for the Belgian TV show Strip-Tease, they created their first short film, a mockumentary about the film industry and the acting profession: L’Acteur ou la surprenante vertu de l’incompréhension. The film was awarded at festivals and earned a César nomination. The duo then embarked on a more ambitious project, still in the mockumentary form, shooting hundreds of hours of footage over two years. From this mix of staged and authentic material, they directed their first feature film: I Love Peru.
