Biography

Joëlle Bertossa founded Geneva-based Close Up Films in 2012. Since then, she has produced around 30 features, among which ADVOCATE, directed by Rachel Leah Jones and Philippe Bellaiche, which premiered at Sundance and won a BAFTA; YALDA by Massoud Bakhshi, winner of the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, and Philippe Garrel’s THE PLOUGH, which won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale in 2023.

Before that, she coproduced Cesar documentary winner I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO by Raoul Peck, and acclaimed animation film THE SWALLOWS OK KABUL, by Zabou Breitman.

Through Close Up Films, Joëlle Bertossa is also very much attached in following young swiss directors and won twice the prestigious Prix de Soleure that honores the best swiss film with films directed by Karim Sayad and Michele Pennetta.
