Joséphine Japy landed her very first role at the age of 10, playing “Belle de jour” in Âmes grises by Yves Angelo. Her career took off in 2009 when she appeared in Neuilly sa mère, directed by Gabriel Julien-Laferrière. In 2011, she starred opposite Vincent Cassel in Dominik Moll’s The monk, before portraying France Gall, Claude François’ fiancée, in Cloclo by Florent Emilio Siri, a biopic dedicated to the late singer. In 2014, she played one of the leading roles in Breathe, a film by Mélanie Laurent that was screened in the “Special Screenings” section at Cannes Critics’ Week. Her performance earned her a nomination for the César Award for Most Promising Actress in 2015 at the 40th ceremony. She played Eugénie Grandet in Marc Dugain’s film of the same name, released in 2021. In 2023, she appeared alongside Jean Dujardin in Denis Imbert’s On the wandering paths. She later portrayed Dominique Tapie, wife of Bernard Tapie, in the Netflix series Tapie. In 2025, she returns to the big screen at the end of the year in Ken Scott’s My Mother, God and Sylvie Vartan, alongside Leïla Bekhti and Jonathan Cohen. That same year will mark an important milestone in her career, as she makes her directorial debut with her first feature film, Who shines in battle. She will then move on to Rachel Lang’s upcoming project (Baden Baden, our men).
