Marie-Thérèse Fortin is active in many areas of the theatre world. Previously, she served as the artistic director of Théâtre du Trident in Québec from 1997 to 2003, and then led Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui from 2004 to 2012. On stage, she appeared in the production of Elizabeth, King of England at the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde (TNM), playing the title role, which earned her the Gascon-Roux Award for Best Female Performance. She also starred in Belles-Soeurs, a musical adaptation of Michel Tremblay’s play by René Richard Cyr and Daniel Bélanger, which was a huge success in Québec and Paris. She has held leading roles in about fifty plays, including The Trojan Women, Andromaque, Agnes of God, Mephisto, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Maids, Bousille and the Just, The Orphan Muses, Inventory, The Game of Love and Chance, The Imaginary Invalid, Lucky Lady, Furious and Desperate, The Atlantic Man, The Balcony, Extramoyen, La Queen’s, and KNOCK. In 2018 and 2019, she portrayed Gabrielle Roy in the solo show La détresse et l’enchantement at TNM. She will also be seen in the plays Les filles du Saint-Laurent and Nassara. She directed productions of Glass Eyes by Michel Marc Bouchard, The Eagle with Two Heads by Cocteau, Talking Heads by Alan Bennett, Ancient Scents by Michel Tremblay, The List (which toured Québec and Canada with nearly 100 performances), The List of My Desires, and Educating Rita. Marie-Thérèse is also very present on television. She appeared in Casino I and II, Le monde de Charlotte, Un monde à part, Temps dur, Les aventures de Jack Carter, Cover Girl, 4 et demi, L’auberge du chien noir, Les hauts et les bas de Sophie Paquin, Tactik, La promesse, Boomerang, Le monstre, and Mémoires vives. For her role as Claire Hamelin, she won the Gémeaux Award for Best Leading Female Role in a TV Drama in 2013 and 2014. She also appeared in Virage and Les moments parfaits in 2021. She also has been seen in Sans elle, Les grandes chaleurs, Inch’Allah, Le journal d’un vieil homme, and Le fils de Jean.
