Biography

Since graduating from the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal in 2005, Monia Chokri has appeared in numerous stage productions (Chroniques, Les mauvaises herbes, and creations by Théâtre du Bunker, which she co-founded). She then moved to television (Les rescapés, Mirador, Mensonges, Fragile) and to film, gaining recognition through Xavier Dolan’s Heartbeats and Laurence Anyways. She also collaborated with Claire Simon (Gare du Nord). In 2013, she wrote and directed An Extraordinary Person, which won awards at the Jutra Awards and South by Southwest. She went on to appear in Ravenous (Robin Aubert), Pauvre Georges !, Emma Peeters, and We Are Gold. Her first feature film, A Brother’s Love (2019), won the Coup de Cœur Jury Prize at Cannes. She followed with Babysitter (2020, awarded in Monte Carlo) and The Nature of Love (2022, Cannes). More recently, she has starred in Mercato, Love letters, Love Me Tender, Out of love, and Where souls go.
