Pierre Even is a prolific Quebecois producer whose career highlights the international reach of Canadian cinema. He began with the cult film C.R.A.Z.Y. by Jean-Marc Vallée, a critical and commercial success that marked the start of an exceptional journey. In 2009, he founded Item 7, a Montreal-based film production company that quickly became a major player on the international stage. Under his leadership, Item 7 has produced over 30 feature films acclaimed for their artistic quality and universal appeal. These include Café de Flore by Jean-Marc Vallée, as well as two Oscar-nominated films: Rebelle by Kim Nguyen and Brooklyn, demonstrating worldwide recognition of Quebecois filmmaking expertise. Pierre Even is known for building ambitious co-productions that bring together internationally renowned talent. His notable productions include The Hummingbird Project by Kim Nguyen, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Alexander Skarsgård, and Salma Hayek; Best Sellers by Lina Roessler, starring Michael Caine and Aubrey Plaza; and Maria Chapdelaine by Sébastien Pilote, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Recent Item 7 productions showcase the diversity of its catalog: Les Jours heureux by Chloé Robichaud (TIFF 2023), Balestra by Nicole Dorsey with Cush Jumbo and Manny Jacinto, and Tous toqués ! by Manon Briand. Meanwhile, the company is developing two documentaries: Deleau: le cinéma en liberté and Cut Print Thank You Bye, a tribute to the late Jean-Marc Vallée.
