Samir Guesmi made his debut in 1987 in Yellow revolver by Olivier Langlois, then landed the lead role in Malik le maudit by Youcef Hamidi, which won an award in Amiens. He distinguished himself in The Mozart of Pickpockets, which won an Oscar and a César for best short film in 2008. Confirming his taste for great filmmakers, he went on to work with Jean Becker, Claude Miller, Nicole Garcia, Arnaud Desplechin, Bruno Podalydès, Pawel Pawlikowski, Rachid Bouchareb and Valérie Donzelli. We also see him in Sólveig Anspach’s films Queen of Montreuil (2012) and The Aquatic Effect, as well as Alain Gomis’ As A Man (2001) ; Andalucía (2007) and Dao (soon to be released) and Rachid Hami’s La Mélodie (2017) and For My Country (2023). In 2013, he was nominated for a César Award for Best Supporting Actor for Camille Rewinds. He has also appeared in series such as Spiral, The Returned, and Sous contrôle, which won Best Series at Séries Mania 2023. After directing his awards winning short film C’est Dimanche !, Samir directed in 2020 his first feature film, Ibrahim, which was selected at Cannes and won multiple awards at Angoulême.
